Conflict resolution in a safe, non-threatening way is always the best choice anywhere, but especially the workplace. I recommend the Thomas-Kilmann method of conflict resolution to new preceptors in my facility. They have great information on their website at http://www.kilmanndiagnostics.com/overview-thomas-kilmann-conflict-mode-instrument-tki Mind Tools also uses this method and other methods in their online education series on conflict resolution at http://www.mindtools.com/pages/article/newLDR_81.htm Hopefully one would never have to deal with conflict, but as we all don't live in Barney's world (http://www.hitentertainment.com/barney/flash_mx/sites/player.asp), conflict will arise no matter what you do or say. So knowing how to deal with conflict without alienating all of your co-workers is a top priority in my book.
